Description:
M.S.M. 1000mg 90 caps - SP-01-15 What is MSM (Methyl Su-
lfonyl Methane)? MSM is a naturally occurring compound,-
34% sulfur by weight. Sulfur is the third most abundan-
t mineral in the body and it’s essential role in human -
nutrition has been generally overlooked. Rich dietary s-
ources of sulfur include raw cabbage, onions, asparagus-
, garlic, eggs, and red peppers. However, due to chemic-
al intensive farming methods, our soil and therefore ou-
r produce is becoming depleted of sulfur and other mine-
rals. Cooked food offers a poor source as sulfur is des-
troyed during cooking. MSM is a non-allergenic, odourle-
ss, white, crystalline powder. It should not be confuse-
d with the inorganic compounds of sulfa, sulfite, sulfa-
te and sulfide. There is evidence that supplemental MSM-
can have a number of exciting health enhancing benefit-
s. Dr Stanley Jacob and Robert Herschler of the Oregon -
Health Sciences University have researched MSM extensiv-
ely. Its main therapeutic significance has been theoriz-
ed and experiments with supplemental MSM have shown pro-
mising results. Sulfur is the main component of MSM so -
the direction of much of this research was influenced b-
y knowledge of sulfur’s importance in the body. The Fun-
ctions of Sulfur in the Body Include: 1) Cell Membrane -
Permeability Sulfur appears to help keep the cell membr-
ane permeable by strengthening the sodium-potassium pum-
p that controls fluid exchanges in and out of cells. 2)-
Glucose Metabolism for Energy Sulfur is an important c-
onstituent of insulin which controls the utilization of-
glucose for energy. Sulfur is also important for the m-
etabolism of carbohydrates. 3) Strengthening and Repair-
of Body Tissue Sulfur is a large component of the prot-
eins in body tissues. It forms the disulfide bonds in t-
he proteins that keep them elastic and assist with heal-
ing and regeneration. 4) Building Cartilage Sulfur is r-
equired to build mucopolysaccharides which are needed f-
or the production of chondroitin sulfate and other nutr-
ients essential for healthy cartilage. MSM and Allergie-
s: According to Earl Mindell in his book, The MSM Mirac-
le, “a direct correlation between concentration of MSM -
and resistance to allergens has been established.” Test-
subjects suffering from chronic and severe environment-
al allergies, showed moderate to complete relief from s-
ymptoms, after continued use of MSM. MSM, Pain and Infl-
ammation: MSM’s ability to enhance the fluidity of the -
cells may help reduce pressure and toxin build up at th-
e site of inflammation, thereby reducing pain. MSM and -
Sore Muscles: Lactic acid is created in the body during-
exercise and is associated with post-exertion soreness-
and muscle fatigue. Sulfur helps to flush out the lact-
ic acid as it is produced, reducing the accumulation in-
the muscle cells that cause soreness. MSM and the Skin-
, Hair and Nails: Sulfur is a main component of keratin-
and collagen (proteins found in skin, hair and nails).-
Sulfur adds flexibility to these proteins and helps to-
prevent cross-linking of collagen which contributes to-
wrinkles and scarring. By improving the flow of fluids-
in and out of the cells, MSM can improve the skin’s ab-
ility to eliminate toxins. MSM and Joint Health: Studie-
s show that sulfur levels in arthritic cartilage are tw-
o thirds lower than in healthy cartilage. How Safe is i-
t? MSM is a safe and natural substance. It is water sol-
uble, exhibits low toxicity, even at very high doses an-
d does not cause allergic reactions or side effects. Su-
ggested Use: According to researchers Dr. Stanley Jacob-
and Dr. Robert Herschler, improvements in Health are s-
een in the range of 250 mg to 750 mg per day. Earl Mind-
ell, author of The MSM Miracle suggests taking 6000 mg -
of MSM daily for three weeks and then reducing to 3000 -
mg daily. Increased water intake enhances the effective-
ness of MSM.
